REVIEW – Working from home is here to stay, so many of us are slowly upgrading our offices from the hastily pulled together setups created at the beginning of the pandemic. Something I always wanted to try was a standing desk.  The ErGear Height Adjustable Electric Standing Desk is a great entry level sit stand desk to experiment with and figure out if the concept would work for me. It comes in four different widths and two different depths making it easy to find a size that fits in your current space. The height is super adjustable which allowed both my average height height husband and my vertically challenged self to use it comfortably without any issues.

The ErGear Height Adjustable Electric Standing Desk comes disassembled obviously but putting it together is super easy as all the parts are contained in labeled plastic bags and the instruction manual provides clearly labeled step by step instructions with easy to understand drawings.

Each step has the pieces needed listed out with images and then the actual instructions with minimal words and very clear drawings depicting what needs to be done in each step

The leg bases and the legs were super easy to screw together with the provided Allen wrench. The motor comes already installed on the right leg so you just need to install the transmission rod.

The one part I felt was kind of flimsy was the table top. While the tabletop is thick enough, .7″, it is comprised of two pieces that are held together with small flat brackets. The ends of the desk are well supported with wider metal brackets as shown below but the center is not as well supported as the center metal crossbar is off center of the seam line.

As you can see in the photo above, the brackets holding together the table top do not line up directly under the cross bar. This makes sense to keep the motor transmission rod centered on the desk but doesn’t add to the stability of the desk. Pushing on the desk, I was able to get it to flex about an eighth of an inch. It isn’t the end of the world but I would be careful about overloading the desk with too much. I think this could be fixed with longer flat brackets holding the two desk pieces together.

On the right side of the desk, the control panel is mounted to the underside of the desk. While not pictured, the power cord is also plugged into the control panel and can be threaded through the cord loops to keep them all organized. Both the power cord and the cord that connects the control panel to the motor have clip ends so they won’t accidentally slide out while raising and lowering the desk. This does mean you have to be careful not to catch the cords and pull on them too hard as they won’t release easily.

I love the simplicity of the control panel. On the left side, the current height of the desk is displayed in either inches or centimeters depending on your preference. It will auto shutoff after a minute to reduce any distraction or light pollution at night. The arrows on the far right side allow for manual height adjustment by holding down the direction you wish the desk to move. Programming the numbered height presets is super easy, just short press the S button then select the number you wish to set. The settings are accessed by long pressing the S button. Within the settings, you can set the height units, the collision detection sensitivity and reset the desk completely. The collision detection helps prevent items from being crushed below the desk or squished as the desk is raised. There are four different levels low, normal, high and off. I have a very tall dog so I turned the sensitivity up so that when she is standing under the desk while I lower the desk, it doesn’t bump her in the head and freak her out.

The desk also does have error codes that will display depending on the issue at hand. I’m not going to list all of the possible errors but one of the more important ones is hot. This one will be triggered if the motor has been running for two minutes straight. While most of us won’t be doing that, I am pretty sure we all know a smaller human who would find playing with the desk a ton of fun. Once the hot error occurs, the desk will be immobile for 20 minutes to allow the motor to cool down safely.

Each side also has a hook that can be used to wrap cords, hold up a backpack or store headphones. These hooks are nice and sturdy so a larger backpack wouldn’t be an issue for the hook. It is important to note that any weight on the hooks will count against the 178 lbs weight limit of the desk. 

The desk has two cord holes built-in with the classic plastic covers. They have an option to have a smaller opening by pushing the tab down and then rotate it out of the way or you can remove the cap completely and have the hole completely open. The only thing is if you choose to use the smaller opening, the cap doesn’t stay on very well and the spring which is used to keep the tab in place frequently falls off and turns into a cat toy. It’s not a huge deal for me as I have enough cords that I need to remove the cap anyways but it is worth mentioning.

The ErGear Height Adjustable Electric Standing Desk is a great option for those of us who are interested in upgrading their work from home office on a budget. With its multiple colors and sizes, it will fit any type of décor and space you have within your house. While there are more expensive standing desks out there, The ErGear Height Adjustable Electric Standing Desk covers all anyone ever needs in a standing desk at a fraction of the price so it’s perfect for someone who is interested in trying out a standing desk without spending a fortune. I have already recommended it to a few friends who are going to be purchasing one in the near future so it is definitely a hit for me.
