Nazem Kadri ran in to some old friends, and they came bearing gifts.

The Calgary Flames forward received his Stanley Cup championship ring on Thursday courtesy of his former Colorado Avalanche teammates, who were in town as the opponent for the Flames opener.

Kadri signed a seven-year contract with the Flames on Aug. 18 after he had 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) in 16 Stanley Cup Playoff games to help the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup for the first time since 2001.

"It means a lot, of course. It's super emotional. It's something that's very difficult to do," Kadri said. "You find a lot about your teammates when you're in that situation and you're back's against the wall, whatever the case may be, deep in the playoffs. Obviously there's no other guys I'd rather do it with and it's nice to be able to turn the page on the chapter and start fresh with another great team."

The hardware was hand delivered to Kadri after the Flames 5-3 victory by Nathan MacKinnon , Mikko Rantanen and Erik Johnson , and Cale Makar and coach Jared Bednar also visited Kadri.

"A win and getting this, I think that's the cherry on top, for sure," Kadri said. "We caught [the Avalanche] on a back-to-back and they're a great team. I know they'll be making a run this year too. We're going to try to be in the mix also."

His new teammates in Calgary will be looking for a glimpse.

"I haven't brought it in yet, but everyone I know wanted to see it," Kadri said. "They've got a few rings in there also. It's just nice to add to the dressing room collection. Today was a bit of a whirlwind of a day. You just try to compose yourself as best as possible and a lot of things are running through your head. Happy we were able to play a half-decent game and get a win against a great team. This just makes it better."
