In Q1 2022 Apple Crushed Samsung in Worldwide TWS Market - Patently Apple

Prior to Apple’s WWDC22 kicking off this morning, a new analytical report was posted regarding global TWS (true wireless stereo) shipments where Apple holds a commanding lead.

According to the new report by Canalys, the category grew 17% in Q1 2022 to reach 68.2 million units. Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi retained their top three positions from the previous quarter, with Apple being the only one of the three to show growth. Apple delivered 14% growth while Samsung came in at -4% and Xiaomi -16% as presented in the chart below.

The averge selling price for TWS players fell from US$153 to US$144 due to players such as  Skullcandy, Edifier and JBL (not shown) that are selling under $50 wireless earbuds.

Jason Low, Canalys Principal Analyst: “Lower prices and value-for-money devices won’t  immediately translate to better market performances.” Low added that Lower-end vendors will have to “explore niches, such as TWS for mobile gaming, work and fitness use cases” in order to show future growth.
