The Logitech Astro 30 for gamers is a wireless headset designed for a wide range of game consoles ... [+] and computers.

Gaming is probably one of the world’s most popular pastimes and hardly a week goes by without another piece of tech appearing on the market with the promise that it will give you the competitive edge you need to win. And having the leading tech is essential in an age where gamers are using PCs, gaming consoles and portable gaming platforms like the Nintendo Switch. Logitech’s new Astro A30 headset is designed to work with them all.

The Astro A30 from Logitech is available in navy or white colorways.

This latest piece of gaming tech blends fashion and function in a multi-use headset that’s available in PlayStation or Xbox flavors. The Astro A30 has been designed for all platforms and even offers customizable speaker tags just like the popular A40 model. Gamers can customize the controls and connect with up to three devices using the Logitech G Mobile app so that players can craft their ideal gaming experience across all platforms.

The Astro A30 combines Logitech’s reputation for comfort and flexibility with the latest gaming performance capabilities, including optimization for simultaneous multi-device connectivity and custom mixing. The Astro A30 works with PlayStation4, PlayStation5, Xbox One, XB Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PCs, macOS, iOS and Android.

The A30 connects quickly and reliably thanks to Logitech’s LIGHTSPEED wireless technology. Both the PlayStation and Xbox versions come with their own LIGHTSPEED USB dongle. For games that play on both consoles, Logitech sells specific LIGHTSPEED dongles separately, along with spare earpads, detachable mics and cables.

The speakers used in the A30 are 40mm dynamic drivers that provide a big sound and plenty of clarity. An on-ear joystick control enables gamers to mute, mix, adjust volume, play, pause and more. The audio and gaming experience can be customized while on the go using the Logitech G Mobile app, which is available for iOS and Android.

The boom microphone on Logitech's Astro A30 headset is detachable.

More than one device can be used simultaneously, thanks to the professional-grade LIGHTSPEED wireless 2.4 GHz dongle, which can connect with a PC, Mac, PlayStation4, PlayStation5, Xbox One, XB Series X|S. There's Bluetooth built-in for portable gaming devices, plus an old-school 3.5mm aux cable for everything else.

Gamers can choose between using the Astro 30’s detachable boom mic or the built-in version. There’s a sidetone for both microphones and the level setting can be applied to both mics. Each microphone offers clear sound, with the boom arm providing maximum focus, while the built-in mic makes the headset look sleeker.

A single charge of the headset provides more than 27 hours of battery life for wireless used across all platforms, providing at least a couple of days of gaming. When it’s time to top up, a USB-C charging port will soon have the Astro 30 fully topped up. And thanks to a built-in accelerometer, the A30 headset turns itself off once no movement has been detected after 30 minutes. That amount of time can be adjusted using the Logitech G Mobile App.

The Astro A30 comes with replaceable tags but underneath the tags there's a beautiful iridescent ... [+] finish that looks so cool.

As well as being a wireless headset, the A30 can work as a wired model even if the internal batteries are completely drained. Simply by attaching the external boom microphone and plugging the headset into any device with a 3.5mm port, the gaming can still carry on.

The Astro 30 will be shipping October 4 and is available in white and navy. Gamers can also personalize their headsets using swappable custom speaker tags and the tag fit is the same as the one used on Logitechs A40 headset. There’s also a curated collection of tags to buy or users can create custom designs using personal graphics.

The Astro A30 has swivel-mounted earcups so that the headset can lay flat when being worn around the neck or when stowed away in the included hard carrying case. The design is intended to be shown off in public, during streams or as part of a battle station.

Verdict: The Logitech Astro A30 wireless gaming headset offers every connectivity option and features a gamer could want. The choice of two microphones is handy and the sound quality from the 40mm drivers is great, even when listening to hi-res music. With the Astro A30, Logitech has created an incredibly versatile wireless headset that will give gamers the leading edge.

Pricing & Availability: The Logitech Astra A30 Wireless Gaming Headset will be available from October 4 and costs $229 / €249.
