Tronsmart Bang Mini Portable Bluetooth Speaker Review

The Tronsmart Bang Mini is an excellent medium to large-sized portable speaker. The sound quality is good, and this provides a good level of volume that’s loud enough to fill a room with reasonably loud music.

The Tronsmart Bang Mini is a new speaker from Tronsmart that is advertised as a party speaker thanks to the RGB LED lighting that will synchronise with your music.

It is quite a large portable Bluetooth speaker which has a 50W power output and will be good for camping and beach days when you want a bit of a party atmosphere.

I have now been informed that this speaker will be available on Amazon UK by the 28th of September, which will likely make it a lot more appealing.

This has a big chunky design with a large carry handle. You could argue that the carry handle adds an unnecessary amount of bulk, but this is already a big speaker, so you are not easily slipping it into a bag.

You have a rubber coating around all the edges, and this should easily handle a few tumbles onto hard surfaces. All the buttons are rubberised, and the charge and input ports are protected with a  big rubber cap, allowing this to achieve its IPX6 rating.

That cap covers both the USB-C charging port, a microSD card slot for music, a 3.5mm input and also a USB-A port for charging your devices.

You have basic music controls on the speaker, and there is also a button allowing you to pair it up with other Bang Mini speakers. The little sun button then provides some control over the LED lighting, including switching it off.

This is advertised as a party speaker with it having RGB LED lighting on the two passive radiators that will synchronise with your music.

It is not a huge selling point for me, and you can turn the lights off if you choose.

I believe this speaker should be compatible with the Tronsmart App, but at the time of writing, there is no entry for it within the app. This is quite a new speaker, so I assume it will be added in the near future.

It looks like the app should allow you to tweak the EQ, and this would allow you to get the sound profile to your liking.

Sound quality is reasonably good; I have not reviewed a larger portable Bluetooth speaker, so I don’t have much to compare it against. But, the additional power this speaker has compared to smaller speakers allows it more headroom to produce good quality sound at low to mid-volume.

Mids and highs are a bit more dominant than the bass, but you still get plenty of low-end thump when a track calls for it.

The volume of the speaker is good. I have quite a large kitchen and dining area, and this can easily fill the room up. At higher volumes, you can hear the bass kicking in, but it sounds quite imbalanced, with the mids and highs leading to some sharpness.

There is a Sound Pulse button that allows the speaker to go a bit louder without introducing harmonic distortion. I found that it works quite well, mids and highs get a nice bump in volume with no distortion, but the bass doesn’t seem to get the same boost.

Like a lot of portable Bluetooth speakers nowadays, you can pair this up with other like-for-like speakers allowing you to achieve stereo audio and a louder party atmosphere.

This is rated for 5 hours with the LEDs on or 15 hours with them off, which is another reason why I am not bothered about the RGB LEDs.

The 15-hour battery life is respectable and matches up with some other big speakers such as the JBL Xtreme 3 and outlasts both the portable Sonos speakers.

Fifteen hours is more than enough for me, there is rarely a scenario where I might listen to a  speaker for 5+ hours per day without an opportunity to charge it overnight.

The Tronsmart Bang Mini is currently only available via Geekbuying and is priced at £80.60. Unfortunately, this would also incur nearly £60 in shipping, which makes it too expensive to recommend.

You can pick up the Tronsmart Bang 60W for £90 and just £2.19 shipping from Geekbuying, so I would expect that the Bang Mini shipping costs to reduce sooner or later.

UPDATE: I have now been informed that this speaker will be available on Amazon UK by the 28th of September, which will likely make it a lot more appealing.

Furthermore, you can get the Tronsmart Bang 60W from Amazon UK for £90 with the £30 voucher that’s on the page.

There is not much that’s easy to recommend over either of the Tronsmart Bang speakers.

The Anker Soundcore Motion Boom Plus is likely to be significantly better, but it costs £140, or you have the smaller 30W Anker Soundcore Motion Boom for around £72.

The JBL Charge 5 is a popular speaker with 40W of power and currently costs around £132

The Tronsmart Bang Mini is an excellent medium to large-sized portable speaker. The sound quality is good, and this provides a good level of volume that’s loud enough to fill a room with reasonably loud music. The bass is a little bit lacking in places, but I doubt many competing brands will offer a similar speaker that’s significantly better at this price point.

At the time of writing, the larger Tronsmart Bang is a better buy, but I would keep an eye out for the Bang Mini Amazon UK listing to go live on the 28th of September. I expect it should end up being an excellent buy.
